DBI at the European Economic and Social Committee for “Shaping Europe Together” – CoFoE

After a two-year stop, we finally had the opportunity to phisically attend the first on-site event organised by the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels “Shaping Europe Together”, in the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe.

Due to the ongoing tragic events taking place in Ukraine in these days , it has been an occasion to reflect on the future of Europe in terms of protection of human rights, European values and the fragility of democracy. We remembered Adenauer, De Gasperi, Spinelli and all the founding fathers that contributed to make Europe the biggest peace project in the world. It has been a moment to gather behind our idea of democratic values, international law and civilization, but also a moment to underline once again the growing importance to make Europe a social Europe, ensuring that young and working people and families do not fear the EU is against them, recalling on the necessity to be more credible in this sense.

All the speakers provided with precious interventions, sparing a thought and expressing solidarity towards the Ukrainian population, but also addressing the challenges Europe is tackling nowadays: green transition and the needs of the society behind it, civil society involvement, citizens representation and youth participation in the European project.
