On 11 and 12 March, the Vienna City Hall hosted the Fundamental Rights Forum 2024, organised by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).
As a member of the FRA – Fundamental Rights Platform, Don Bosco International (DBI) was invited to attend the Forum together with high-level speakers, thinkers, policy-makers, creators, and civil society organisations that aim to shape Europe’s rights-based future.
Insightful reflections on human rights challenges were offered through panel debates, messages from global leaders, a Marketplace of Connection, a Human Rights Lab, Masterclasses, tech presentations, art performances, music, and networking events.
Among the main topics covered:
- Current threats against the EU’s founding principles of freedom, democracy, the rule of law and respect for fundamental and human rights;
- The climate crisis as a human rights crisis, affecting a wide range of rights, exposing global inequality and social injustice;
- Ensuring rights-compliance in an increasingly digital world.
Together with Ms. Barbara Terenzi from VIS, the Executive Secretary of Don Bosco International had the opportunity to share Salesian good practices with civil society actors focused on human rights, build new contacts with FRA and EU officers, congratulate Ms. Sirpa Rautio for her new role as Director of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights.
